This week, the blog of Clear, an EU / UK / US cosmetic regulatory compliance firm, is opening a new section: “The CLEAR Perspective“. Its principle fits in one sentence: we take a fresh look at the news that affects us, whether it comes from cosmetics itself or from much further afield, and we explain what it changes, in practical terms, for the brands and companies in our sector. This article opens the series: it sets out our intention and how you can respond, because this section will also be built with your feedback.

Why a “perspective” rather than yet another analysis?

Clear’s regulatory content already exists and will continue to exist: it is published in the “Expert Insights” section, where you will find detailed analyses by the CLEAR team of legislation and procedures. “The CLEAR Perspective” meets a different need. We see every day that a brand’s decisions are never made in a single register: a tariff changes a selling price, a social media controversy shapes a launch, an acquisition changes the retail landscape. Compliance itself does not operate in a vacuum; it is part of this economic, cultural and geopolitical reality.

It is this overall perspective that we want to share. A “fresh eye” on the business, first of all, because a firm that has been supporting cosmetics brands every day for 15 years sees the same issues as its clients from a particular angle: what really happens between a product idea and its arrival in the consumer’s hands. We always start from a recent, dated and verifiable fact, then look at what it means for a young brand, an SME, a group or a retailer considering a move into beauty. No moralising, no grand theory: a clear, grounded and useful reading.

What you will find here

This perspective is intended above all to be useful to the entrepreneurs who read us. When a news event changes a cost, a timetable or the rules of the game, the right question is rarely “what is happening?”, but rather “what do I need to decide, and in what order?”. Each article therefore tries to offer decision-making benchmarks: criteria to examine, scenarios to compare, common mistakes we have encountered and tried to help others avoid. In short, a nuanced analysis that acknowledges areas of uncertainty, rather than a spectacular stance without context.

We have also designed this section for a range of readers. Cosmetics professionals, of course: brand founders, SMEs, mid-sized companies, major houses and manufacturers. They will find practical insights on their growth, distribution, export, marketing or financing. But also professionals from other worlds who are considering developing a beauty offer: fashion, home décor, hospitality, wellness, content creators. For them, jargon-free insights will explain what made, or did not make, the success of those who have already taken the plunge: some have been our clients since their launch.

Over to you

“The CLEAR Perspective” is a section that will be built over time, and it will be better if you contribute to it. Feel free to react to the articles, to tell us what you think, or to point out an angle we have overlooked. Do the topics covered speak to you? Is there a theme that concerns you that is missing: an export market, a change in retail, a consumer trend, an innovation from another sector? Does our Perspective seem accurate to you, too cautious, too clear-cut? Every contribution will help us adjust the topics and the tone.

You can reply in the comments under Clear’s posts on social media, where we share our articles, or write to us directly. We will read everything, and the most frequently asked questions will feed into future topics, and even future “Expert Insights” articles.

A question, a topic idea, a disagreement to share? Clear’s teams are listening: write to us to give us your opinion on the topics and on our positions.
